Food Packaging - Nitrogen Solutions

On-site Nitrogen for Food Packaging & Storage

Companies operating in the highly competitive food and beverages industry know oxygen exposure can have a massive effect on product quality, as well as how long perishable foods remain stable for consumption.

Oxidation causes spoilage and deterioration of nutritional properties, observed through changes in colour, smell, taste and texture.

Nitrogen gas is the most cost effective industry solution. Clean, dry & inert, it is used for form filling, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) & inert storage, helping to:

  • Extend shelf-life (in many cases by several months)
  • Minimize the need for chemical preservatives
  • Increase the reach of product distribution
  • Prevent packaging collapse and less material to be used

On-site Nitrogen for Laser Cutting & Welding

Companies in the highly competitive metal fabrication industry know that moisture & oxygen contamination can have significant bearing on the quality or structural integrity of end products.

Oxygen exposure can cause a number of issues such as discoloration, formation of oxide layers over cuts and between joints, effecting the quality of finish & material wetting.

Nitrogen gas is the most cost effective industry solution. Clean, dry & inert, it is used as an assist, purge & shielding gas, helping to:

  • Deliver faster, better quality cuts and stronger weld joints
  • Blow away excess molten metal waste from cut edges
  • Cool materials to minimize discoloration & oxide formation

Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology - Nitrogen Solutions

On-site Nitrogen for Pharmaceutical & Biotech

Pharmaceutical & biotechnology companies operate in very precise environments. The sensitive nature of compounds and organisms means there are several product quality and safety considerations.

Product exposure to moisture & oxygen can cause contamination, altering product composition & rendering them useless. Furthermore, excess oxygen concentration during processing can often lead to explosive reactions.

Nitrogen is the most cost effective industry solution. Clean, dry & inert, it is used to remove contaminants at numerous stages of the manufacturing process, helping to:

  • Sparge out potentially harmful chemical compounds
  • Blanket storage tanks to prevent product spoiling
  • Inert processing chambers to prevent combustion (e.g. during milling or spray
    drying)
  • Sterilize packaging of air or moisture prior to filling

On-site Nitrogen for Wine Making & Production

Companies operating in the highly competitive wine industry, know that oxygen contamination & exposure can have significant effects on product quality, as well as stability and suitability for consumption.

Oxidation of wine leads to spoiling and deterioration, observed through changes in smell, taste, texture and manifests as a rancid, vinegary taste.

Nitrogen gas is the most cost effective industry solution. Clean, dry & inert, it is used at numerous stages of the wine making process to prevent bacterial growth and ensure product quality, helping to:

  • Sparge out dissolved contaminants (e.g. O2 or CO2)
  • Blanket storage tanks to prevent spoiling
  • Purge air and moisture from bottles prior to filling

Electronics Assembly - Nitrogen Solutions

On-site Nitrogen for Electronics Assembly & Storage

Electronics & nanotechnology companies are familiar with the impact of oxygen contamination on efficiency and product quality.

During assembly, atmospheric air creates thin oxide layers over and between connections, leading to several problems downstream, such as product defects that require additional reworking. Furthermore, condensation creates moisture in storage environments, which causes corrosion
and product degradation.

Nitrogen gas is the most cost effective industry solution. Dry, inert & non-conductive, it is used in storage and for reflow, selective or wave soldering surface-mount technology to printed circuit boards (PCBs), helping to:

  • Increase soldering joint strength &reduce bridging/wetting defects
  • Increase first-pass yields, ensuring minimal heat exposure
  • Reduce requirement for reworking & flux residue cleaning

Top class service from Rob Spark - Inverness. We had an oil leak in our compressor and Rob was with us within an hour. He cleaned, diagnosed, fixed and observed the compressor until he was happy with it. He then explained to me and my colleagues more about our compressor and the controls of it in 5 minutes than we had learned over the years of working with it. Excellent service. Frequently Asked Questions

Nitrogen gas (N2) is typically produced using cryogenic air separation or Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA). Cryogenic plants cool air until the components liquefy and can be separated, while on-site PSA systems, such as our Peak Gas i-Flow nitrogen generators, use a carbon molecular sieve to selectively adsorb oxygen, delivering high‑purity nitrogen on demand.

No, nitrogen gas is not flammable. It is an inert, non-combustible gas that doesn’t burn or support combustion. It makes up roughly 78% of the Earth’s atmosphere and it can be used to extinguish fires or to create inert environments to prevent explosions.

Yes, nitrogen is considered an inert gas under most industrial conditions. It does not readily react with other substances, which is why it is widely used to create oxygen‑free environments that prevent oxidation, combustion, or chemical degradation.

Nitrogen is marginally lighter than air. Air is a mixture of gases (mainly nitrogen and oxygen), so nitrogen generally behaves similarly and disperses quickly in open or ventilated areas.

Nitrogen itself is not toxic, but it can be dangerous in confined spaces because it can displace oxygen, creating an asphyxiation risk without warning. Since it is colourless and odourless, proper ventilation and oxygen monitoring are essential when working with and around high‑purity nitrogen.
